Broadband Internet access, most commonly know as broadband, is a high speed Internet access connection which has mostly superceded dial-up access using a 56k modem as the most popular way of connection to the Internet, due to its far superior speed and reliability. Dial-up modems have a speed of no more than 56 kbit/s (kilobits per second) and tie up your phone line, as opposed to broadband which boasts speeds of 50Mbps (megabits per second) and more using fibre optic technology without disrupting telephone use.
(Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) Router is one form of the Digital broadband technology, a data technology that enables faster data transmission over a copper telephone line, typically a BT connection, than a conventional dial-up modem can provide.
A cable modem uses the signals transmitted over the cable television network to connect you to the internet. As the cable network uses fibre optic technology, the broadband connection is more often more reliable and quicker than a connection over a conventional telephone network.
