What is Digital TV

Taking Out The Confusion

With Digital TV you can benefit from a wider choice of viewing with lots of extra channels at your disposal, being digital technology, it reduces the interference that you may be experiencing with analogue TV. Digital TV also offers other benefits, such as a greater selection of programs most shown in widescreen, on-screen electronic programme guides, interactive services using the red button with Sky and Virgin Media, plus High Definition and Dolby 5.1 surround sound for an unbeatable viewing experience. With the birth of home cinema in recent years, this picture and sound quality is only made possible by the onset of digital technology. Everyone’s expectations have grown, with large screen television and high end sound systems being able to virtually match the cinema experience. By 2012, the UK's TV service is switching to digital, and you need to be ready for the Digital Switchover. Here, Digital Offer explain the options for changing to digital TV that is ready for the switchover.

Using The Red Button

Digital TV makes it possible for you to do explore much more with your television, take part in programmes, see much more in depth news  and sports, keep in touch with latest sports results, travel information and weather forecasts, you can even play games, do some shopping, place bets and interact with favourite programmes all from the comfort of your home. There’s no need to own a personal computer, it’s all done through your TV.

To use the interactive service,  just press the red button on your remote control whilst viewing. Sometimes you will be asked to press the button during a programme or when a red button logo appears in the top right-hand corner of your TV screen.
The interactive features include:

  • The latest national and international and business news.
  • The latest sports news and results.
  • Up to the minute weather forecasts and travel information.
  • Join in with your favourite programmes.

Interactive TV is available with all digital services, however the features may vary according to whether you have digital terrestrial, satellite or cable TV and whether you have broadband. You can use the interactive TV with BBC, including through the Freeview service, Sky and Virgin Media.
